The World Recycling Day is celebrated the 17th May aiming to aware the society about the importance of treating wastes as they are, not contributing to climate change, and thus protecting the environment.
The word "recycling" is understood as the process in which a material or product already used, in principle intended for waste, is subjected to a treatment to obtain a raw material or a new product. That is, a waste that is reintroduced into the life cycle, which allows us to make better use of natural resources, reduce the environmental impact of our consumption habits and devise creative ways to redesign our objects and give them a new life.
The origins of recycling symbols go hand in hand with Gary Anderson, a senior student at the University of Southern California, who was the winner of a design contest organized by the Container Corporation of America as part of the first Earth Day In 1970.
Gary Anderson created a logo based on the symbol of Möbius in triangle shape, where each of his three arrows represents one of the steps of the recycling process: collection of materials for recycling, the process of recycling itself and the purchase of these recycled products, so that the system continues again and again.
Recycling across the world
Across most developed nations, landfill still remains the primary means of waste disposal. Many countries are attempting to minimise the amount of waste going to incinerators and landfill sites by developing recycling programs. In OECD countries, at least, their efforts have had varying degrees of success.

1- It conserves valuable natural resources such as: Oil - by recycling your plastic containers and bottles you will help reduce oil consumption as all plastics are oil based. As oil stocks diminish the cost of crude oil will rise resulting in increased fuel costs and grocery prices will rise also.
2- Substantial energy savings can be achieved by manufacturing new products from recyclables rather than natural resources.
"Recycling benefits our environment in many important ways."
3- Trees are used to manufacture paper products, an average of 13 trees are required per tonne of paper. Recycling your paper and cardboard products will help reduce the need to forest timber.
4- It can save you money in waste disposal costs. Less waste to landfill extends the life of the landfill site, this helps your council keep your rates charges at an affordable level.
5- Recycling helps to reduce pollution by cutting green house gas emissions.
6- In the main remanufacturing, product from recyclables will save water.
Every year the popularity of this key date for ecological awareness has been taking force, making more countries join in propagating during the day, quality information on everything related to recycling of different types of waste.
Throughout the world, various organizations related to the theme organize events, graphic campaigns, written, urban, televised, etc ... in addition to concerts and different types of activities in many areas, such as neighborhood, work and school, with the sole idea of encouraging the recycling, educating and helping the process to save the planet.
Reasons to recycle
The possibilities of recycling are many and necessary for the environment. This day reminds us that the excess of waste is a danger to our health. So you know, go and RECYCLE !!
